When in Delhi, explain progress and set out your plans!

Blog post by Francis Ingham, ICCO Chief Executive

Last week, ICCO hosted its annual Global Summit in New Delhi. ICCO is the voice of PR agencies around the world, with 30 Associations representing nearly 2,000 agencies. And since January of last year, the PRCA has had the pleasure of running ICCO’s secretariat, with Ketchum’s Senior Partner, David Gallagher FPRCA, now ICCO’s President.

Opening the Summit, I was able to give attendees an update on ICCO’s progress; and an insight into our plans for the year, grouped around six ICCO responsibilities.

1. Representing the global PR community. Progress:another Association welcomed into membership (NASO Kazakhstan), taking our total to 30. Plans: a major expansion programme, built around a new regional structure, agreed at the previous day’s Board meeting.

2. Showcasing the best of international PR. Progress: representing PR at Cannes for the first time earlier this year, and running the Young PR Lions competition. Plans: we’re going to launch the ICCO Global PR Awards, drawing on the very best from every established PR market around the world.

3. Improving standards. Progress: our ground-breaking evaluation guide with AMEC, setting common standards of evaluation in 30 ICCO countries. Plans: we’re going to do the same with social media guidance.

4. Spreading knowledge. Progress: our World Report and Quarterly Barometers set the gold standard of market intelligence. Plans:we’re expanding both to include more detail from further sectors of the market, and with a growing international reach.

5. Professionalising practice. Progress: our ICCO/UK PRCA training is being taken up in more and more countries. Plans: we’re about to launch an online version of CMS, making it easier than ever to test agencies against rigorous, independent standards.

6. Facilitating international networking. Progress: well, it spoke for itself. 200 senior PR practitioners, meeting in Delhi, having come from over 30 countries. Plans: regional events, based around a new structure.

And as for the Summit itself? A stunning success organised by my inimitable colleague Anastasia Tole (nee Demidova). Photos and presentations here. Roll on Milano next year!

ICCO Announces Global Expansion Plan

Speaking at today’s International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO) Global Summit in New Delhi, ICCO President David Gallagher announced an ambitious global expansion plan, built around a new regional structure.

Opening the annual gathering, Ketchum Europe CEO Gallagher said:

“ICCO is in rude health, and well-positioned to lead our industry over what is certain to be dynamic future.”

“At our board meeting yesterday, we approved a proposal to commence a global expansion plan, one designed to serve three large purposes:”

“1. First, to better serve national associations and their agency members through the formation of six regional structures, allowing more collaboration and interaction among agencies, more leadership opportunities for individuals and greater reach into both established and emerging PR markets.”

“2. Second, to foster the development of national associations where none exist, and to incorporate existing associations into the ICCO community.”

“3. And third, to further solidify our truly global voice for the PR consultancy industry by strengthening our global structure, while adding these additional regional elements.”

“We will begin a consultation process with member associations, prospective members associations and industry leaders where no associations exist in the coming months, and you will see a brief paper on the process on the ICCO website shortly. We will look forward to your input as this exciting new phase evolves.”

The ICCO World Summit launches today in the Shangri-La hotel in New Delhi, and will feature presentations from the top PR practitioners including Fred Cook (CEO, Golin), Bob Pickard (Chairman, Huntsworth plc Asia-Pacific) and Tim Sutton (Chairman, Weber Shandwick Asia-Pacific). ICCO President Receives PRSA’s Atlas Award

As featured on PRSA.com:

NEW YORK, Oct. 7, 2014 – The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) announced today that the Atlas Award for Achievement in International Public Relations will be presented to David Gallagher, senior partner and CEO of Ketchum’s European operations and chairman of Ketchum London. The award will be presented at the PRSA 2014 International Conference during the opening general session on Oct. 12 in Washington, D.C.

The Atlas Award for Lifetime Achievement in International Public Relations is given annually to a public relations practitioner who has made extraordinary contributions to the global practice of public relations over the span of his or her career.

“David is a great ambassador for the public relations profession around the world,” said Joe Cohen, APR, 2014 PRSA National Chair. “For the past twenty years he has passionately helped promote the transformative power of public relations while bridging communications and fostering collaboration across many countries and cultures.”

Gallagher currently oversees Ketchum’s nine European offices and their specialist services, which include consumer public relations, healthcare communications, corporate affairs and social responsibility, public affairs, change management, and clinical trial recruitment.

He is a member of Ketchum’s global Executive Committee and chairs the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. “I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition, and humbled by the list of previous recipients, who truly have shaped what is now a worldwide community of professionals,” said Gallagher. “I’m a beneficiary of their important work which helps guide us at a time when a global conversation is stirring, more inclusive and urgent than ever before, about our collective and interconnected future. As communicators we are privileged to serve as stewards and architects of this conversation. It is a great responsibility, as well as a real opportunity to use communications as a force for good. I’m grateful to the PRSA community for its continued leadership and delighted to accept this award.”
